What is the EMPOWER summer camp?
The EMPOWER summer camp is a partnership with the School of Public Health and College of Education and Human Development, which aims to provide high school students and teachers with an 4 week virtual & in-person research experience where they will participate in air and water research, obtain hands-on lab and cell culture training, and learn about potential environmental health hazards and risks for surrounding Atlanta communities. The comprehensive approach our program provides will develop interest in college-level study in environmental health and formulate critical thinking skills for use in academic or non-academic careers. Participating high school teachers will be given additional educational and professional development training in environmental health issues and participate in summer research training along with students to help increase science teaching capacity.
